Quinton Update ~ March

My monthly update on Quinton.  What a silly boy!  Ever since his brothers birthday he has been counting down the days until his own.  I'm pretty sure he likes it when it's Uncle Jack's birthday cause he knows he has one more month until it's his turn to celebrate.

Q has been so into things.  He loves Skylanders, which was his brothers birthday gift.  He loves playing the games, attacking the bad guys and winning missions.  Seriously this boy can tell you anything you want to know about Skylanders.  He can relive every moment and totally beat your bum on anything you have wrong.

Quinton also loves anything to do with dragons.  Dragons and dinosaurs.  The boys just watched some episodes of "Riders of Burk".  Quinton is all over that one as well.  He loves it so much.  He can tell you all about the dragons and what they can do, how to "save" them and what he would do with each one.  I'm always surprised at how much he can take in and to what detail he can tell it back to you.

He has been enjoying reading with us and is always upset when he doesn't go up a level at school for reading.  I'm very impressed with his ability to "stretch out words".  When Q doesn't know a word he sounds it out.  He does this by putting his hands by his mouth and pulling it out, as if stretching/pulling bubble gum out of his mouth.  It makes me giggle sometimes but it totally works for him.

Quinton's writing has improved a lot as well.  Every time he does his nightly reading he shows off the writing to me to ask if it's good enough, or neat enough.  Each day he is improving little by little.  I still can't see his letters being capitals or small letters but it works for now.

This past month was hard on our little man.  He is so caught up with everything Otis I'm never sure what to do.  Lately he has been having nightmares and crying in his sleep.  So we put him in with our CTG and are going to sessions.  So far nothing has been said yet, as we had to reschedule his meetings, but I'm hoping we get some where with him.

Quinton's is slowly ready for the outside.  I'm pretty sure the nice weather we have been having is also helping out with him being more and more excited about going outside to play.  He asked if we could garden the other day.  I'm not ready for him to do the garden work yet, mainly cause the ground is still frozen but hey, whatever works right?

It was a fluke that I managed to get this shot.  Auntie Leah, Uncle Pat and baby Grayson had such a great Easter egg hunt that the boys were moving so fast.  Q loved his visit with them and loved the hunt!

Dr Appointments

As I'm sure you've had alot of posts about our family and our sweet baby Otis, this is another one, of sorts.

I had my 6 week appointment today.  My sweet little boy would have been 6 weeks old (well almost 7), if everything had worked out.  Don't get me wrong, I wanted a full term healthy baby but if he had survived his birthday, he would be 6 weeks old by now.

Today I met with our INCREDIBLE ob.  She was wonderful!  I love her and her staff so much.  They booked me knowing what had happen on a day when there were NO pregnant women in the office, no blaring "you didn't have a baby and I am" feelings.  I got in before my appointment and out just after what would have been my appointment time.  She helped us set up future appointments (yes, it's true I'm "making" my husband get the "Big V", and I am to come and see her next fall).  We talked about how I'm doing medically, how my body is and what's going on with us.  We joked about how things have been going since then and what will be happening next.

All in all a great visit.  She really is a wonderful ob.

Now I wait, 3 more days, and I have another appointment.  My appointment with my BP dr is on Thursday afternoon.  I always have "high" bp in her office.  I'm not going to lie, putting an internal med dr with special interest in pregnancies, pre and post, on the labour and delivery floor, GREAT idea... but for the rest of us, it sucks.  My BP is high when I see her, but perfect to low at home.

I have a feeling this visit (or the next) we will be changing my doses.  I'm good with that.  I'm finding I'm low at night, but it could just be the night time.  For now we wait and see.  This appointment I'm taking my "warrior" with me... Quinton!  He loves this dr so it should be good.

And then I get some time off (most likely I'll see my BP dr again in 3 to 4 weeks but I do get "some" time off).  I'm looking forward to things getting semi normal again.

Happy Birthday Quinton!

On April 10th my little man became a "whole hand".  I love it when they have birthdays.  It's so cool to see each of the kids progress into the men they will become.  I am so proud of them.

Quinton is still having some speech issues.  Currently we noticed it with the "TH" that they are doing at school.  We are getting ALOT of "F's" so I'm planning on going through my paperwork from the boys and see if I can find anything that may help us.  He has also begun to read!  I'm not 100% sure if I posted in there before but Q was getting so worried about his reading an so concerned that he couldn't do it.  So we started with small books.  Like "HUG".  It was great!  There are 3 words: hug, mama, bobo.  Perfect for Q.  And he loves that book.  This week they started the reading bags for the Jr's and his came home with a book called "Farm Friends".  He reads it like a pro "I see a cow.  I see a horse.  I see a hen.  I see a sheep.  I see a farm!"  I love watching him progress.

When I asked Q about himself he said he :

is full of energy (he *never* needs to sleep!)
can READ!
loves to bounce,
loves to play Wii, and
is a "whole hand"

It's so cute!

Anyway, Q's birthday wasn't as much fun as we thought it would be.  Between everyone not feeling well (including Q) it was low key.  The boys did have fun.  Here are some of the photos I've got from that day:

Out like a ....?

Well March is in like a ?????? and out like a ???????????

Quinton's class talked about how March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, or the other way around. They talked about it at the beginning of the month and said it came in like a Lamb. Then when the end of the month came most said a Lion was back!

Well Quinton informed me that they thought March was going out like a "lemur". When I asked what he ment he said different every day, like the stripes on the tail! Sometimes he just surprises me!

This morning confirmed it thought! It snowed!! Who would have guessed!! What fun! Not too bad, and just a dusting but it did!

I hope that where ever you are March was just as perfect for you as it was for us!

Enjoy April!!

Chicken Soup With Rice

2 years ago Kyler was in JK. It was only a few weeks into school but it was the beginning of Kyler's "I can read" books. We would go over his poems, and songs and review them during the weekend.

Today while Quinton was getting out his lunch he started to say "paddle once, paddle twice, chicken soup and rice". I laughted because it was perfect! I missed that song/poem! It's great to have it going on again!

For those of you who don't know what it is here's how it goes:

January
In January it's so nice
While slipping on the sliding ice
To sip hot chicken soup with rice
Sipping once, sipping twice
Sipping chicken soup with rice

February
In February it will be
My snowman's anniversary
With cake for him and soup for me!
Happy once, happy twice
Happy chicken soup with rice

March
In March the wind blows down the door
And spills my soup upon the floor
It laps it up and roars for more
Blowing once, blowing twice
Blowing chicken soup with rice

April
In April I will go away
To far off Spain or old Bombay
And dream about hot soup all day
Oh, my, oh, once, oh, my, oh, twice
Oh, my, oh, chicken soup with rice

May
In May I truly think it best
To be a robin lightly dressed
Concocting soup inside my nest
Mix it once, mix it twice
Mix that chicken soup with rice

June
In June I saw a charming group
Of roses all begin to droop
I pepped them up with chicken soup!
Sprinkle once, sprinkle twice
Sprinkle chicken soup with rice

July
In July I'll take a peep
Into the cool and fishy deep
Where chicken soup is selling cheap
Selling once, selling twice
Selling chicken soup with rice

August
In August it will be so hot
I will become a cooking pot
Cooking soup of course-why not?
Cooking once, cooking twice
Cooking chicken soup with rice

September
In September, for a while
I will ride a crocodile
Down the chicken soup-y Nile
Paddle once, paddle twice
Paddle chicken soup with rice

October
In October I'll be host
To witches, goblins and a ghost
I'll serve them chicken soup on toast
Whoopy once, whoopy twice
Whoopy chicken soup with rice

November
In November's gusty gale I will flop my flippy tail
And spout hot soup-I'll be a whale!
Spouting once, spouting twice
Spouting chicken soup with rice

December
In December I will be
A baubled, bangled Christmas tree
With soup bowls draped all over me
Merry once, merry twice
Merry chicken soup with rice

I told you once, I told you twice
All seasons of the year are nice
For eating chicken soup with rice

"We" are learning September again!

Quinton's First Day of School!!

On Friday my baby went to school. My littlest baby went to school! Can you believe it? I"m just in shock how much he has grown. While he did have his ups and downs on his first day he did well and is excited to go back on Monday.

I packed him a snack because the snack program doesn't start until Monday but he didn't get to eat it and was so sad. Instead he had a snack that Mr. Brown had ready for him. No big deal right? Wrong! He wanted to eat his own snack and that made him so sad. Then he wanted to play somewhere but there were already 3 kids playing there and was upset for a few seconds until Mr. Brown and Mrs. F found the computers to be open so there he went and was happy as could be.

Today he drew a "dragon" for his first day of school picture. If you ask him it's a rainbow t-rex dragon with an X through him! I'm excited to see what it looks like when we go into the classroom. He also read 2 books. One about a bear going to school and one about a bunny going to school. He really liked those books. He also sang "O Canada" today and in the hall sang "Skinamarinky dinky dink I love you" song and he liked that one.

All in all a great day.
