humm, Mom... I'm stuck

Yep! That's what I was told on Thursday. I look over and Quinton, who I can only assume was looking for more candy, had a box stuck on his head. Check this out:

I told him only to look with his hands inside boxes, not putting his head in there!

Lest We Forget, We WILL Remember.

My boys are learning about the poppy and why we wear it. Most importantly they WANT to wear their poppy. This year I feel I have seen more than other years. I love that.

What I love more is that Kyler understands why. And he explains it to ANYONE who asks. Even strangers.

Here are my boys, proud to be wearing their poppies this Remembrance Day:

To make it a bit more "child safe" I use safety pins to keep them on and it works perfectly, with less poking! If I remember right last year K's class got them in sticker format! I think that is a wonderful day.

For those who don't remember this famous poem I hope you take a moment to read and remember.

In Flander's Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flander's fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, tho poppies grow
In Flander's fields.

Liet. -Col. John McCrae

Thank you, with all my heart.

Is it still Fall?

You wouldn't be able to tell by my windows and doors but hey, somewhere (being school) it is still fall'ish.

Q and I took the camera to school on Monday to pick up Kyler and we snapped some shots.

These first 2 are from a house down the road. They just re-did their front of the house. It used to be a pink colour and now it's a lighter pink colour and they put these beautiful front face of rocks:

These photos are from school. There is this beautiful bush around the front of the school and I just *love* the colours!

"Nothing new?"

I was just informed that there is "nothing new" on my blog!

I'm SOOO sorry! Things have been a bit crazy around here.

Arnold headed out on Friday evening after having supper and went up north with some of the Sr. Highs from church. He went up to help take care of the house/food/cleaning and chill with the guys. He got back on Sunday night, came home, had supper, and went back to church to help with some sound. It was a good weekend for him.

Kyler and Quinton stayed home with me and we chilled out. We didn't do anything on friday night. Saturday we had friends over (I'll post about this later) and Sunday we had church and home quickly since Kyler is in the middle of a cold.

Monday we had Young Adults hang out at our house and a busy day of 2 schools at our house.

Today we had our normal school and I went swimming and tonight I ehad out for Bible Study at a friends house. *hopefully* Arnold with make sure the boys get a bath!

I promise to give a better update, with some photos tomorrow!

Happy 1 Year!

Can you believe I've been blogging here for 1 year?!? Wow it seems like so much has happen but so many good things. 1 year ago today I wrote a blog entry (feel free to check it out here.

As an update to the "Welcome to our Visser blog!" I give you the below entry:

I still try to blog as much as I can and include as many photos as possible. I am proud to say that over the past year you have viewed over 3000 photos and over 7 slide shows of my children.

Re-Welcome to our family:

Arnold is my husband. He is one of the best men I have ever met and is the most loving, handsome, sweet, caring, handy, father. He loves his 2 boys with all his heart. He tries to do so much with them and spend as much time as possible with them. He still works a a computer programmer for a company here in Toronto. They have recently moved to a new office about 20kms away from our house. Due to that Arnold bikes into work every day. That's 40kms a day. We are now entering year 4 at this company. Arnold's birthday is coming up soon (Nov 10th) and even though we won't get much of a celebration in he has already received his gift. I may buy him his FAVOURITE cake (McCain's Deep and Delicious Cake)

Kyler is our oldest son. He is now in Sr Kindergarten at the school down the road. He loves his teacher, Mr. Brown, and has taken on some of his traits, for example loving the Toronto Maple Leafs. He just went to his very first pro hockey game with his dad a few days ago. He loves to spend time with his brother, building things with his duplo and K'nex and colouring. We are working on reading with him right now. Kyler has started to attend a new school program to help him with his speech and language development. He attends this school on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Kyler is excited to be celebrating his 6th birthday. He plans on having a party this year, we might go bowling. March 8th is going to be busy!

Quinton is the baby of the family, for now. He is such a sweetheart and he loves spending time by himself. He is getting himself ready for school next year (being in Jr kindergarten). He loves to play with blocks, swords and shields and doing as much as he can with his hands. He has the BEST imagination. It's incredible. He can tell you stories about "last week" (which is his relation to time in the past, be it a few hours ago or years ago) that would just floor you with the detail he can explain. His Speech Therapy he has done this past year is slowly coming to a close. He did so great that his Speech Therapist wanted to wait and see how he does with things in the next few months before recommending him for more treatment! We are crossing his fingers he is done!

Lastly is me. My name is Miranda. Last year I listed my 'jobs' but really it's my life! I don't have too many jobs lately. I've grown so much with this blog and with our family. I'm now good at living in a small house, downsizing regularly, decorating, learning to delegate, being a hostess, leader, and most of all remembering to take time for myself. This blog is part of my 'detox' time as well as a place to talk about how life is going. I've begun to expand my photography abilities, child care as well as teaching. I've also completed a triathlon! How cool is that. It has to be one of my proudest moments lately. Hopefully I can do it again next year under 1 hour.

I hope this post has allowed you to be 're-welcomed' to the blog. Feel free to ask questions! I promise to answer!

New Food #58 ~ Southwestern Pork and Pasta

I made this meal last night and WOW was it good. I was kinda surprised. You should try it. I'm thinking about making the sauce again and make it into a chili!

1 package (16oz) penne pasta
2 pork tenderloins (1 pound each), cut into 1-inch cubes
2 TABLESPOONS of olive oil
8 green onions, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
3 cans (14.5oz each) diced tomatoes with mild green chilies, undrained
2 cans (15oz each)black beans, rinsed and drained
1 package (16oz)of frozen corn, thawed
1 jar (16oz) of salsa
1 TABLESPOON of chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon paprika or smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1 TABLESPOON of cornstarch
2 TABLESPOONS of cold water
Sour cream

1 - Cook pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a Dutch oven (BTW I REALLY WANT one of these), cook pork in oil in batches over medium heat for 6-7 minutes or until juices run clear; return all the meat to the pan. Add onions and garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Stir in tomatoes, beans, corn, salsa and spices. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered for 5 minutes

2 - Combine the cornstarch and water until smooth. Gradually stir into pan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until slightly thickened. Drain pasta; add to port mixture and toss to coat.

3 - Serve the desired amount of pasta with sour cream. Cool remaining pasta; transfer to freezer containers. Cover and freeze for up to 3 months.

TO UES FROZEN PASTA: Thaw in the refrigerator. Place in an ungreased shallow microwave-safe dish. cover and microwave on high until heated through.

SOOO yummy!!!

A post about me

After completing my Tri in August I took some time off training. I enjoyed the craziness of the month and got back into the swing of things in September. My biggest problem. I got sick. REALLY sick. And all that pre-planning for my training went out the window as fast as warm air on a cold day.

It was so upsetting. I worked so hard to get my life in order and I'm pretty sure God was telling me to slow down. So I did. Since then I've rearranged a few things in my life and a few things have been rearranged for me.

Instead of following my super strict plan of getting the P90 workouts done by Dec 20th I've barely even started. Instead of going for a walk every morning I've barely had time. And instead of swimming as much as possible, I *just* got back in the pool this week.

August 30th I started working on my 'big plan'. It's been a few weeks (9 actually) and I've lost some weight. A total of just shy of 10lbs. Not too bad but not where I wanted to be. In fact I wanted to be closer to 15lbs. But I guess about 1lb a week isn't so bad.

I've finally had some time to get myself back into the swing of things. And Arnold has been a big help. I'm trying to keep up with everything but I'm so cold in the morning to go for walks and it's been getting so dark so fast I haven't had time. Here's how my week looks now, after getting my ducks in a row:

Mondays - Walk and bike in the garage
Tuesday - walk and swim
Wednesday - walk and bike in the garage
Thursday - walk and swim
Friday - walk and bike and maybe swim, if possible
Saturdays - off
Sundays - off

Our November is turning into a bit of a crazy time but I'm sure I'll enjoy it anyway. As for now Arnold is gone this weekend to a Sr High retreat, then next weekend is Promise Keepers, the weekend after Arnold AND I are gone (thank you Nana and Papa) on a Jr High retreat with the church and then the weekend after is men's breakfast and I'm finally going to get some time to take a breath, I hope! And maybe finish decorating.

Anyway needless to say we are going to be a bit crazy this month but I plan on sticking to my workout schedual, maybe I'll see more of a weight loss!

Here's hoping!
