A Mid-night Walk

A few nights ago (Sunday, I think) the family headed out for a walk. Our goal was to see if any houses still had 'Santa Lights' (Christmas Lights) out anymore. We did find a few houses but generally a bust for that. We did walk around the blocks and have fun. I only snapped a few photos but I thought you might enjoy. They cover everything from the moon to the 'footprints' in the sidewalk (which Q feels the need to point out every time we go by) to the window of our house all decorated. Here you go:

Another Skating Day!

Today I bribed my kids, I know bad bad mommy but hey! A girls got to do what a girls got to do!

I told the boys if they could be good boys in the morning then we would go skating when K got home. So sure enough they were great, getting things done and being quick about it. We got Kyler off to school and Q was wonderful for the day.

We went to pick up Kyler and I had one of *those* moments. You know... the moment when you look at your camera and go... humm should I take it? Nah I have lots of photos of the boys right now. I wish I had taken my camera (I didn't even have my phone). The kids were playing in the front yard of the school. 19 backpacks hanging off the fence and 19 little kids running around making snowballs into snowmen/snowbabies and having a great time. Thank goodness I didn't let Q sneak out of the house without his mittens (unlike me) and he got to play with the big kids. They had a great time.

We headed home and had lunch and got ready to go. The boys and I headed out to go skating for the Parents and Preschoolers skating time. It's from 1 until 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We had alot of fun. There were about 20 kids and parents or so on the ice, it was soooooo much fun watching the kids and playing around. We really enjoyed it. We lasted about 45 minutes or so then went home. Kyler did great with learning to push with his skates and glide. He did a middle to end and back to the other end with only falling 2 or 3 times. And a whole oval around the ice with only falling 4 times. He is getting so much better.

Hopefully the next few days will go just as good, if not better.

New Day New Look!

Today I figured I would change it up a bit. It's no longer Valentines Day and yet it's not even close to St. Patrick's day so I figured something blue with the boys would be good.

Today the weather man told us we would have "crazy amounts of snow" and yet there is nothing. Who knows. As long as it waits until Kyler gets home from school I'm good!

My legs are still hurting a bit from skating but it was worth it. Now that's all the kids want to do. Kyler told me this morning that when we went and got Kyler we would go skating! I'm hoping to take them tomorrow for the 1 to 2 time for Parents and preschoolers. I am crossing my fingers it will work with all this 'snow' they are calling for.

As for the 'new look' part of today I thought I would show some photos of Q's curls. They are sooo pretty. I know I have to cut them eventually but for now they are super sweet.

Happy Birthday Kyler and Quinton (and Daddy and Mommy)

Today we split up. No not that kind, Arnold and I still love each other. But we split up the kids. Kyler has been giving us parents a rough time lately so we thought maybe switching it up a bit will give us a break and we could see how it worked out for us.

This morning when we got up the boys watched a movie while Arnold started their breakfasts. I do mean breakfasts. Kyler had 3 helpings of chocolate pancakes. Quinton had 2 bowls of oatmeal, and 2 helpings of pancakes. The boys can pack it way for sure! After they got their fillings Kyler and I got dressed and headed out.

Our first stop was the Faith Family Book Store. It's a Christian book store in Scarborough. I returned a book and pre-orderd a new one. Then Kyler found an Adventures in Odyssey DVD and I picked up 2 books from their Clearance Section for 1.99 each!

We went from there to Zellers, then to Play it Again Sports, the grocery store, subway and then home. The whole time looking for skates. We found some from Play it Again Sports for Kyler and myself. It was wonderful!!

Then we got home and found out a few extra things. We needed helmets, and special ones. Csomethingsomething approved. We managed to find some helmets but they weren't approved at all.

Anyway we got home, at our lunch and talked about it. The boys were going to be getting their skates for their birthdays/christmas gifts.

After running around all over we ended up with:

My skates ($36.99) from Canadian Tire
Quintons two-blade skates from Zellers ($7.99) and helmet ($45.99) from Just Hockey
Kyler's helmet($54.99) and skates ($19.99) from Play it Again Sports
Arnold's skates ($54.99) from Play it Again Sports

It's crazy and costly but it was a good trip. We ended up with everything we needed for skating by 4pm! pretty good! The last few things (helmet for Quinton after calling a million and one places to find one) were purchased while the boys slept at home and I hung out so we did manage to get a nap in as well!

Like our skates?:

We went skating at Scarborough Centennial Recreation Centre. We did their Mini Skate (for parents and kids under 10) and part of their Family skate (anyone under 19 with parents). We got there at 6:15pm and didn't leave until 7:45pm. We had alot of fun! I haven't been skating in forever! It's crazy! I had fun though!

The boys enjoyed themselves sooo much!

Near the end (after I went around about once and Arnold had gone around about 6 times with random children) of my first lap the boys wanted to hang out in the middle and work on skating on their own! There was ALOT of falling but Kyler had a wonderful time! He did great! He loved skating and hopefully can try again tomorrow. Quinton went around once or twice with Arnold and came and skated on his own in the middle. They had a blast! Not too many photos (sorry about that) but they weren't really allowed on the ice and I didn't get to take too many either! Hopefully I can get some more tomorrow!

We manged to get the boys skates with their Christmas money and hopefully some Birthday money will cover their helmets and anything else we had to buy. But they LOVE skating so it's totally worth it. I now understand why places like Play it Again Sports exists! I can see us using them alot. Next winter it will end up being Skiing! I'll be saving for that sort of money!

This will become our new weekend plans! Every Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon! I'm excited! There are even some Parents and Tots skating on Thursdays and some Tuesday afternoons!

Balloon Fun

There was a huge accident just the next road over from our house. It was around midnight or so and it woke up Q who came to snuggle with us in bed. When we dropped Kyler off in the morning they were still working on it trying to get the road cleaned up, power back on and getting the accident figured out.

Once Q and I were walking back to school they were almost done, and beginning to let the TTC cars down the road but it was craziness. We stood at the corner and watched the police for a bit and then began walking to the front door to wait for Kyler to come out. On our way up we saw a balloon. Q went running after it. You should have seen him in the snowsuit running in snow to try and get the balloon. He did at one point but the wind was so bad it knocked him over AND it knocked the balloon out of his hands. It then went blowing around the corner and the moms and I got worried it was going to fly off onto to the road so I kept saying no! I went to make sure he wouldn't go after it but the way the the building was and the wind had not been blowing there it was standing still. I picked it up and brought it back to the front door and looked for string but I didn't have any in my pocket. Instead I found our keys on our hook and I put those on the balloon and it worked perfectly.

We brought our stray balloon home and the boys had a blast. It kept them busy for quite some time! Enjoy the photos of Q playing with his balloon while Kyler was still napping:

Tuna-good food! (#12)

I love tuna. I don't think people understand. My favourite meal is a bagel with tuna and mayo mix with a tomato and melted cheese on top. It's incredible! Now on the other hand.. Arnold HATES tuna. He hates the smell, texture, and most of all eating it! He HATES to eat tuna. If I have tuna at lunch I have to wash out the tin and wash out my plate/dishes before Arnold gets home.

So yesterday, being a Wednesday, I got to have tuna! Arnold doesn't come home from work on Wednesdays. He just meets us at church for youth and kids klub. I get the whole evening to do what I want in the kitchen. Mostly it's KD and hot dogs but today it's different!

I made No-Bake Tuna-Noodle Casserole

You need:

8oz of dried cavatappi, elbow, bow0tie, or penne pasta
1 1/2 cups of desired frozen veggies (optional)
1/4 to 1/2 cup of milk
1 6.5oz container light semisoft cheese with garlic and herb
1 12 oz can of solid white tuna, drained and broken into chunks
salt
ground black pepper

1 - Cook pasta in lightly salted water according to package directions. If desired, add frozen veggies during the last 4 minutes of cooking. Drain and return to pan.
2 - Add 1/4 cup of the milk and the cheese to pasta in pan. Cook and stir over medium heat until cheese is melted and pasta is coated, adding additional milk as needed to create a creamy consistency. Gently fold in tuna; heat through. Season to taste and salt and pepper. Makes 4 servings.

Per serving: 419cal., 11g fat (6f sat. fat), 68 mg chol, 693 mg sodium, 46 g carbo, 1 g fiber, 33 g pro.

I generally followed directions. I used a whole 8oz container of light semisoft herb and garlic cream cheese. IT worked perfect. I'm so surprised how well it worked and how easy it melted. The Tuna was a 8.5oz container and it was already chunk-ed ones and it worked well as well.

Now once this was made K and Q had their noodles, cheese and pees without the tuna. I haven't tried tuna with the boys yet so why waste something so good :)

Here is what the boys had:

I think I may make it again with some chicken next time. It is really yummy!
