Prep 10 minutes
Cook 11 minutes
Serves 4
3/4 to 1 lb of sirloin steak (fat removed and cut into thin strips)
3/4 tsp of salt
1/2 freshly ground black pepper
2 TBSP of vegetable oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 lb of thickly sliced mushrooms
2 green peppers, julienned
1/4 cup of barbecue sauce, preferable smoky flavoured
1.5 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp dried leaf thyme
1 - Sprinkle steak with salt and pepper. Heat 1 TBSP of oil in a wok or deep frying pan set over high heat. Stir-fry half the meat until lightly browned, about 2 minutes, Remove to a plate. Repeat with remaining meat, adding more oil, if needed. Set aside.
2 - Reduce heat to medium and add remaining oil. Add onion and garlic. Stir frequently until slightly soften, 3 to 5 minutes. Increase heat to high. Add mushrooms and green peppers. Stir-fry 4 minutes. Add barbecue and Worcestershire sauces, thyme, steak and any juices that have collected. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
**Instead of using mushrooms and green peppers we used our fallback stir fry dish of beans and carrots.
We served with rice and they suggest "For a hearty dinner, serve this dish with garlic mashed potatoes or broad noodles."
