Camp Heslop 2010 Day #1

Last night, before bed we recieved our first update!

We had an uneventful trip home from the Leverton/Devos family reunion. Our little campers were all excited about the awards they received for playing the games. They were playing with their parachute men for most of the first half of the trip. The most frequent question being asked was “How long till we get to your house?” (Two hours) and “Is that a long time?”. About half an hour into the trip there was complete silence from the back seat, as all three had fallen asleep. We needed to make a pit stop at the Flying J to get gas for the RV. I woke up the campers to take a potty break and pick up some snacks. The lady at the cash register commented on how polite the kids all were when they thanked her for their treat.

Everyone went back to the car, with treats in hand. We got out drinks for everyone. Papa told us the battery would probably need to be changed over to the spare one sometime on the way home, which made for a very interesting conversation in which everyone learned about alternators and batteries that needed to be charged. We did actually have to stop in Strathroy while Papa changed over the batteries, but that gave us a couple of minutes to get something else out of the trunk to eat for our lunch.

We arrived home safely and the campers were really good about keeping themselves busy while Papa, Uncle Jack and I put away the camping gear and got the laundry going. The kids discovered the basement was cooler and they headed downstairs to set up the trains. Later in the afternoon we went swimming (the pool still a limeade green) and got cooled off. Papa brought us supper at the pool side, but the bees decided to join us so we went inside and had a picnic on the carpet in the sun room.

After supper they all went downstairs again and played with the trains while I did the laundry. When the pj’s finally dried we headed upstairs and brushed our teeth, had our vitamins, read stories and then were given a 10 minute play time. As I type this they are in the final minutes of play time.

Observations: Kyler and Amber are growing up so fast, they require so little of the intense supervision they did in the previous years. Quinton is just so laid back that he does whatever they are doing.

Amber is really confident in the water, she has been swimming around with just water wings, showing us her back, front and side floats. She loves role playing and we had to be a fish family in the pool, she was sister fish, Kyler was brother fish and I was mommy fish.

Kyler could see that his brother was not going to go in the pool so he took a blow up boat and filled it with water so Quinton had his own little pool. What a sensitive little man. He tells me that hotdogs with peanut butter (which he ate) are the best food ever.

Quinton loves to play with the action figures and the baby doll, he as voices for each of them. Tonight he undressed the doll and announced that the dolly wanted to sleep commando. He is also becoming a really good problem solver, when the new bed became an issue he told everyone it was fair if we all took turns. It seems he thinks I want to sleep in the new bed.

I'll update some more later. Right now I'm still working on laundry!
