Here is Camp Heslop Day #3
Day Three
For those of you who heard the schedule for Camp Heslop , this was supposed to be the Bouncy House day. We decided it would be to hot, so we rearranged the day for Friday.
We woke up this morning raring to go. The breakfast menu was vast from pancakes to cereal. By nine o’clock we were on the road to a Blackwell Park . It is really an amazing park with a wide assortment of activities to take part in. Kyler and Quinton went immediately to the tire swing, Amber to the bridges that lead to a music board. They even have a store counter, tic tac toe board, cog board, and of course slides, climbers, the mandatory riding duck, a jeep, swings, the list goes on and on. It was so hot out today that we took a couple of juice box breaks before deciding at 10:30 it was just way to hot to stay. So we loaded back into the car and headed over to Nana’s store.
I had to drop off some paper work from the trade show and thought why not visit the bakery. Wrong, for one thing the bakery is not open this week or next they are on vacation. The campers were very sad about this, so we headed through the parking lot and went to the dollar store. That was one interesting spending spree, who would have thought there could be so much discussion about what each camper really wanted to buy. We left with a plastic tea set to have tea parties in the pool with; two swimmer men and marbles. On the way home we passed the cemetery which lead to some very interesting discussions about what makes a person dead. Quinton decided that you got dead when you had no more breaths to take. Remind me to avoid that corner.
At home we quickly got into our swim suits and into the pool to try out the swimming men and the pool tea party set. Interestingly enough after about ten minutes it was Amber and I with the wind up swimming men and Quinton and Kyler having the tea party. Uncle Jack came out to help supervise so I could go and get lunch ready. We were on a pretty tight schedule today as we had to be at the movie theatre by 12:30. Lunch, clothes changes, potty breaks, hair combed, spare clothes bag packed and then off we went. Uncle Jack was a little surprised to find out he was going to the movie too. I guess I forgot to send him the memo. He is Mr. Speedy and made his lunch, changed and was in the car in 10 minutes.
When we arrived at the theatre a bus had pulled in just before us. I told Jack that I hoped they were there to see Cats & Dogs because it would be a noisy place if they were seeing Ramona and Beezus. Jack said maybe they were Twilighters, then about twenty little 7 and 8 year olds jumped off the bus. They went to our movie but that was ok cause if it wasn’t for them it would have been only our campers. Kyler was very interested in how I could talk to the ticket person through the glass, when I showed him the hole in the glass, he had to stand on his tiptoes and talk to her. Inside we headed to the concession and loaded up on popcorn and candy and then off to theatre number 6. We all got seats, but Quinton didn’t weigh enough to keep his down. He sat with Uncle Jack. The preshow advertisements were really good and there are lots of movies the campers want to see next. Then our movie began and they pretty much stayed glued to the screen with the few exceptions when they had to be hushed because they were talking. Quinton especially seems to feel he had to tell the movie characters when they were doing something bad. I loved the movie and cried a couple of times during it.
After the movie we headed back home, by that time it was way to hot to even think about swimming. The campers headed to the basement where they have a very complicated maze of train tracks going. As long as I keep their train locomotives’ in fresh batteries they are happy. They got a bit restless around suppertime so we took out the play dough and started to make snakes and balls. I fed them supper at 5 along with watching the movie Atlantis because my thinking was they would need an early bed time. I haven’t figured out how this happens but the last one fell asleep at nine.
Things to remember.
I was telling Amber how proud I was that she was climbing up higher on the monkey bars then she had ever before. I must have said something like “Wow you’re up high!” Quinton, who was getting a push on the swings at the time, started to laugh and laugh and tell me I was so silly for saying that Amber was a pie.
Kyler suddenly announced in the late afternoon that we had not had breakfast or lunch. I told him what he had for lunch and what he had for supper and what he had eaten for snack at the theatre. He looked at me strangely and said “I thought that was yesterday,” He must be having fun as time is passing rather quickly.
Amber is missing her sister today. While we were at the dollar store she asked if she could buy her sister a gift. She took a bit of time before deciding on two squishy balls.
