Here is todays Camp Heslop update:
Well there is a first, Camp Heslop is officially one day longer then it has been in the past.
We had a bit of a rough night last night, Quinton was up from one to two in the morning, but guess who was bright eyed and bushy tailed just before 7 this morning. There was a little voice beside my bed. Nana I up. Nana why your blanket on the floor? Nana I don’t have any more cars, I go commando. Nana why you have a pillow for your legs? With that little voice to wake up to, our day began. Quinton and I went downstairs to let the other campers get a few more minutes of sleep. He ordered his standard meal – peanut butter sandwich and a jupe (juice) box.
I had decided that today was going to be a laid back do nothing kind of day. While I put a load of laundry in and cleaned up the kitchen, Quinton watched the magic school bus. Within the hour the other two came down for their breakfast. I nipped upstairs and made beds and organized suitcases. I was looking for Quinton’s pirate t-shirt that has been missing for a day or two. I did actually find it behind the end table in the sun room later in the day.
We did have a laid back day. We swam and played with the two dinghies in the pool. We had a craft time during which we built sailboats and painted them. We had lunch in the sunroom followed by a golf game in the back yard. Amber picked the red tomatoes; Quinton watered my plants and Kyler entertained himself with a piece of twine which he tied everything in the pool together with. I told the campers that there would be no nap this day as it would be our last day to play together. They were so happy.
As the day got hotter we headed inside to watch Tinkerbelle. Kyler fell asleep. The other two got bored of the movie and after Amber got changed into her ballerina outfit they went to the sunroom to dance. I was getting dinner ready by that time but was called in to play the piano for their dance class. I got a few good pictures of Quinton and Amber’s moves. Papa and Uncle Jack came home from work and we talked about our plan to go to the beach after supper. Quinton was feeling sad about his mommy and daddy, so they called and had a good chat with him. He has been great since. I think it is anticipating the robot that walks in a gift bag with a bow that has him looking forward to their homecoming.
After supper we went to Canatara Beach for a playtime in the sand and water. The water is surprisingly warm there. We were lucky to see three tankers go in and out of the river while we were there too. They love throwing rocks into the water and wiggling their feet in the sand until their feet disappeared in the wet sand. We stayed until the sun set and then headed home for dessert of strawberries and ice-cream. Bath time for each of them and then they were off to bed. All and all it was a very good day; we all got a bit of sun, but nothing bad.
Funny things
Amber insisted on wearing her ballerina dress to the beach, it was hilarious seeing her try and keep the tutu up out of the water. We tucked and re-tucked the ends into her panties. She was quite the sight, it is not everyday you see a Tinkerbelle ballerina at the beach.
The funniest thing you have ever saw – Kyler needing to go to the bathroom, getting out of the pool and then trying to put the frog towel over his head. I just keep repeating to myself every time I use the toilet. The water around the toilet is from wet bathing suits. The water around the toilet is wet . . .
Quinton decided to sit in one of the dinghies and float around the pool today. He is so light the wind kept sending the boat all around the pool. He was getting upset with this and so he asked me for two squirt guns. It was brilliant he used these long tube squirt guns as paddles and was able to make himself move where he wanted to.
Well that wraps up Camp Heslop for another year. We really missed having Papa around to play with, he was working a shutdown. Quinton our newest camper did really well. Amber and Kyler were old pros at this and they just fell into their usual friendships. We had a stay at home camp this year with only two trips, one to the movies and tonight to the beach. This was different but it worked out beautifully. The bounce house was the highlight of the week. We will have to see about the timing of Camp Heslop for next year. We may have it earlier in the summer. Becca arrives to pick up Amber tomorrow morning; Kyler and Quinton have one more sleep until their parents get home from the wedding in Regina.
